Travel Sabbatical Series 2

My pursuit of my Achan’s dream – the 13th trip – Kolkata 28th Dec till 3rd Jan 2019

It was a big surprise for me to see the excitement in Amma’s eyes to explore Kolkata, city rich in traditions and cultural heritage. Achan had worked in this city for 6 months when I was a kid. He had shared so many stories about the city and we had a bond with this city which we had never visited. He used to describe it as a city of chaos yet filled with kindness and hope.

It was Amma’s idea to visit places like Kalighat temple, Kumortuli, Belur Math, Museums, Thakur Bari , Howrah Bridge etc. Even today it reminds me of the joy we had while roaming in the streets of Kolkata wherein we explored street food and shopping. We loved the hospitality of people and even got a chance to sit on Tram.

We visited Mother Teresa’s House on the New Year. Although photographs were not allowed inside but I can visualise the entire house even now when I just hear the word Mother Teresa. It was a humbling experience to visit her house.

When I was back from Kolkata I found something different in Amma ,her mindset which was always focussed on missing Achan & her emotional dependency had undergone change. She was looking at all the beautiful memories she shared with him and wanted to carry forward the legacy of fulfilling their dreams. I was happy to see her becoming independent again.

My takeaways were

It’s not dependency that creates your future. It’s independence that creates your better future.

D of Growth mindset which I learnt was Applying Different Strategy in life helps you move forward towards your dream life

To be continued…. More stories about missing puchkas and tumkas in tram in my upcoming book
